Hailing from Stourbridge and surrounding areas, in the time the four piece have been together the buzz around them has become immense. Following a first appearance in April 2001, Godsize have gone from strength to strength, so much so in May 2001 a demo was recorded due to the high demand surrounding the bands musical prowess.
With comparisons made Godsize are more than adamant gigging all over the country to let you decide. Laying waste to the majority of venues locally branding there mark and playing alongside established bands such as Calm Insanity, Charger, and Defenestration proving Godsize are more than capable even in their early stages.
2002 showed Godsize aren’t afraid of hard work, with wall-to-wall gigs from the outset, taking time out in February to record the follow up to the bootleg demo. What followed was ‘Not Even God Can Save Us’ recorded by Paul Sidderns ‘Coal Chamber, and Napalm Death fame’ at Frameworks, Birmingham. This became the bands first professional recording. Airplay on London’s Total Rock Radio followed the hype of the CD, which took up most of the unsigned section in the show!
Due to demand August saw the band in the studio once again following up with a four track self titled CD containing some of the bands most tuned down, heavy yet most exceptional work! Promoted by the bands very own Metal Fest (which saw over five hundred back in at the Rock Café, Stourbridge)
September saw long time bassist Dan Kendrick leave the band and all went quiet in the Godsize camp for a month. After careful selection and consideration Godsize were joined by now bass player Dave Day (who cut his teeth playing guitar for Brum stoners Sonic Lord) Within a matter of weeks the band emerged new line up, tight and oozing with new material, ready to rock!
Towards the end of 2002 Godsize were beginning to play the gigs they rightly deserved supporting Undergroove favorites Johnny Truant, Three Stage Of Pain, Fony and Kill To This to name just a few.
2003 saw great things from the outset for the band, with Godsize opening for Anthrax and also One Minute Silence at The Wolverhampton Wulfrun Hall in front of sold out crowds! Very impressive shows followed to the delight of promoters who were hot on the heels of the band for other top supports.
The year was more than busy for the band who headed out on there first European dates with hardcore band Freebase and Slit (Malta) (in Metallica’s 1999 European tour bus) A planned headline tour for late summer firmly under there belts, shows followed with the likes of Viking Skull, Murder One, Send More Paramedics, Firebird, Sloth and Pale Horse not forgetting a multitude of there own, all to rave reviews! Godsize also played alongside Sikth and Hondo Mclean to a sold out Wolverhampton Wulfrun Hall, the venue was now becoming there second home.
May 2004 saw Godsize hit Necrodeath studios under the watchful eye of Mick Kenney (Anaal Nathrakh/Frost/Mistress fame) Recently Kenney has seen album of the month reviews in Terroriser and an album that produced a 5 KKKKK’s review in Kerrang! Magazine. Due to be released through now defunct label Maniac Beast (My War and Iron Monkey) the band looked for new representation. Not to dwell on the could have been, Godsize hit the road in July 2004 with London’s Path Of Betrayal for a full scale summer tour, doing what they do best, playing live.
In late 2004/05 the band release ‘Rock N Roll Machine’ on 7-inch vinyl through independent label Meltdown Records (www.meltdown-records.co.uk) with Rip Open You as the B-side. Supports followed with Alabama Thunderpussy, and Breed 77 with all new material and tracks coming thick and fast!
An appearance on the UK pranksters Billious DVD (similar to Jack Ass and Dirty Sanchez) followed with shows and a short tour in support of the soundtrack, which featured the band.
2005 sees Godsize back at full strength and out on the road with Organ (USA grind) and Coventry’s Out For Blood for a full scale UK tour. Back home to good news and an inclusion on the Terrorizer born ‘Fear Candy’ CD series awaits for an August release. Not to stand on occasion Godsize fly to Malta for two sold out shows with old tour buddies Slit.
May 2005 sees the band out on the road again for a full scale UK and European tour with Slit to amazing responses. A string of local shows (including supporting up and coming noise mongers Mendeed) kept the Godsize camp ticking over. A plea to fans to vote online to win the Terrorizer magazines unsigned band poll is thrown into the mix…Never to let a hot commodity down fans boost Godsize to secure Terrorizer magazines unsigned band of 2005.
Plans for the rest of the year see the band hit the studio once more with Migg
Kenney (Anaal Nathrakh/Frost/Mistress) to record a further nine tracks. Supports
with the likes of Deicide, Stamping Ground, Raging Speedhorn and Mistress are
to follow. A full feature spread in the ‘Breaking Faces’ section
of Terrorizer Magazine November issue is due shortly.
